Ryan Hwang doesn’t need a flashy tagline. He’s just a guy with a deep love for music and culture. Born in LA, raised in Northern Virginia, and deeply shaped by his time in Richmond, Hwang found his rhythm in the city’s vibrant creative scene.

His DJ journey began at a house party in RVA, where he saw a live DJ seamlessly spin ’90s hip-hop and modern R&B. “It completely changed my perspective,” he says. That moment ignited something. Later, while working at Richmond’s Rotate Buy, sell, trade shop, a music session with a DJ friend sealed the deal. Ryan was hooked.

His sound? Nostalgic, groovy, community. He leans heavily into throwback and current R&B, layering in hip-hop and house to keep things fresh. Whether mixing a top 40 hit into a forgotten '90s gem or playing in the street outside Rotate for his first-ever gig. Ryan crafts sets that resonate and hype people up. 

But DJing, for Ryan, isn’t about chasing clout or checks. “When I started doing gigs just for the sake of it, I realized I was falling out of love with it,” he says. Now, he plays only when the vibe is right. When the crowd is open, and the music is real.

His advice for aspiring DJs? Go for it. “If you love music, dive in. You can learn it all from YouTube. Just make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons—because you love it.”
