The DMV Women's Market Recap
The first-ever DMV Women’s Market started slow but quickly filled with energy, surprising the event organizers with its strong turnout. “I didn’t expect so many people, but it was a great crowd throughout the night,” said Annali Menjivar, Executive Director of the event.
Vendors saw great success, with Café Folake & Co. selling out of their pastries and their horchata-infused Euphoria Latte becoming a crowd favorite. Many vendors, like NGO Way That’s Thrifted, nearly sold out, and Menjivar noted she finally had the chance to connect with Karissa and Christian [NGO Way That’s Thrifted]. “It’s about more than selling. It’s about building relationships,” she shared.
The market also fostered community, with attendees forming new friendships over shared interests. One guest, Patricia, came specifically to meet people and bonded with others over her anime-themed bag. Even male attendees showed up in support, enjoying the welcoming atmosphere.
Attendees described the event as different from anything in Virginia, comparing its underground, intimate vibe to a New York creative space in which DJ JP & Saber helped keep the energy high. Now, Annali is looking into planning bigger and better markets by adding a lounge area with a projector setup and expanding outdoors as summer approaches.
With vendors eager to return and new faces showing interest, the DMV Women’s Market is quickly becoming a must-attend event. Whether you’re shopping, selling, or looking to connect, this is more than a market. It’s a community movement.
