Maryland-born Lyn Lapid's meteoric rise to fame began with her 2021 viral hit, "Producer Man," which garnered over 8.3 million likes on TikTok. Her raw, emotional performances and captivating acoustic style quickly caught the attention of artists like Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, and Jungkook of BTS, propelling her to over 1 billion global streams.
Though Lyn initially embraced the "bedroom-pop" aesthetic, she soon transitioned to a bolder sound that blends jazz, R&B, and alternative influences. This shift is fully realized in her debut album, Buzzkill, which was released today. The twelve-track project marks a pivotal moment in her career as she steps away from the DIY sound of her earlier work and embraces a fuller, more dynamic musical palette. The album explores themes of loneliness, toxic friendships, and self-acceptance, all wrapped in a vibrant, groovy fusion of genres.
Lyn credits much of her creative evolution to her cultural roots. As a Filipino-American artist, she found deep inspiration during a trip to the Philippines, where she connected with local artists and experienced their powerful vocal traditions. She shared, "I met so many Filipino creators, and hearing their music was so refreshing. They're incredibly in tune with their voices, and I took a lot of inspiration from that, especially from R&B artists like Zack Tabudlo."
As Lyn prepares to hit the road for her Buzzkill World Tour, which will take her across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and the UK, she's focused on translating the album's emotional depth to live performances. "I intentionally crafted the songs to highlight the bass, keys, drums, and guitar," she said, reflecting on her band's setup. "When we perform them live, it's about pairing those key instruments with my vocal delivery to bring out the emotional layers of the music."
