For Marley X Lake, Inégalé was never created to chase hype, status, or quick money. It was built from a lifelong love for creativity.
Founded in 2015, the Washington, D.C.-based clothing brand began as the realization of a dream Marley had carried since he was 13 years old. He had always been drawn to self-expression. For years, he found himself looking at brands and creative projects from the sidelines, constantly thinking, I could do that. Eventually, he stopped watching and decided to build something of his own.

“I genuinely love fashion. I love art. I love design,” Marley says. “I just want to share it with people.”
Over the last decade, Inégalé has evolved alongside its founder. Early on, Marley viewed himself as a niche creative operating quietly in the background. Looking back now, he sees that period differently. The work was less about finding an audience and more about finding himself.
After spending time living in New York and working long hours at Louis Vuitton's Soho location, Marley realized something important. The city gave him connections and, most importantly, perspective, but it also taught him that creativity requires space to grow. Returning home allowed him to pursue a master's degree at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and reflect on what he truly wanted his work to represent.
“I realized I’m a man of the people,” he says. “I love connection. I want my work to represent fun.” That philosophy sits at the heart of Inégalé today.
The name itself comes from the French word meaning “unequaled,” though Marley is quick to explain that it has nothing to do with superiority. Instead, it represents the feeling of putting on your favorite jacket, seeing a piece of artwork that inspires you, or simply experiencing something that brings genuine joy. The brand focuses on colorful sportswear, thoughtful design, and the belief that quality and creativity should be accessible to everyday people.

One of Inégalé’s most recognizable symbols is its double-smiley logo. What began as a spontaneous sketch between friends eventually became the brand’s North Star. No matter how you rotate it, the smile remains. “Good regardless,” Marley says.
That same spirit will be on full display June 13 and 14 when Inégalé partners with Maketto for a FIFA World Cup watch event in Washington, D.C. Guests can gather to watch matches, enjoy food, connect with community, and shop Inégalé pieces throughout the weekend. For Marley, the event is about far more than sales.
“Even if somebody just buys a coffee and watches the game, that’s just as valuable to me,” he says. Whether through clothing, art, or soccer, Marley’s goal remains the same: bring people together.
And after more than a decade of building, Inégalé continues to prove that the strongest brands are often built not for profit, but for the love of the game.
